Life Insurance – Then Vs. Now

It was easier years ago.

A life insurance agent came to your home for a “housecall” and sold you a policy, usually just enough for burial or funeral expenses. Then came back to deliver that policy when completed. Had a cup of coffee, maybe a small gift for a child in the house. That’s what happened in my family.

Norman Singleton. I’ll never forget him. My parents found him in the yellow pages. He came to our home to sit with my parents and discuss their options. Sold them policies. Visited a few times for paperwork, and to deliver their final policies. Even brought me a puppet marionette doll that I still have to this day. I keep it as a remembrance of what a nice man he was.

How time as evolved!

Policies have grown larger (and rightfully so, as people’s needs have grown and there are so many useful ways to utilize life insurance benefits now. To plan not only for death expenses, but for children’s inheritances, mortgage protection, long-term care assistance, bill coverage for beneficiaries, and more.

Everything is now online. Searches. Paperwork. Chats. Texts. All done without ever needing to meet with an agent. Convenient. Simpler for all.

But so impersonal.

I believe in blending the Then with the Now. Personal still works, even if just on the phone or through a facetime or zoom call, while making it easier to complete policy requirements and paperwork online or through portals.

But the personal interaction with an agent is so important to ensure you understand what you are purchasing and ensuring ALL your needs are met.

If Mr. Singleton were still alive, I believe he would agree.
